Somersault on Egg Hill

I wrote this song for those moments when we feel a little lost or out of control. When we feel like we are spinning round and round and we don’t know what’s underneath our feet. During the pandemic I read a line from the book Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown about how a dandelion seeds the world around it when the wind blows. This image inspired the idea that the dark times and rain can seed renewed growth and hope.
LYRICS
Once (once) in awhile we lose a little sun (sun)
But if we wait we realize, there’s wisdom in those graying skies
And a little bit of rain will be just fine
A little rain, will be just fine
A little rain, will be alright
Cause the sun is gonna shine again
And it happens all the time, happens all the time…
It was summer (summer)
When we somersaulted
On gentle hills and daffodils
Sprinkled all across egg hill
And we would wonder (wonder)
What was underneath our feet
When all the world turned upside down
And we were spinning round and round
Reach out a hand, and we can understand
We’re in it together
So (so) a rainy day has fed the ground below (low)
A dandelion will bloom and grow and feed the world around it
When the wind begins to blow
A little rain, will be just fine
A little rain, will be alright
Cause the sun is gonna shine again
And it happens all the time, happens all the time…
Reaching out a hand when we are spinning round and round
Spinning round and round, ooh-ooh
