Doraji (도라지)

I was born and raised in East Tennessee, and I was definitely inspired by the beautiful Southern gospel and bluegrass of the Appalachian mountain region. I’ve always loved the vocal harmonies in these songs and thought the Southern mountain style would be a perfect for this Korean traditional song dedicated to the doraji, a mountain root vegetable. The song is, after all, a song of the mountains, much like the Appalachian mountain songs of the South. Our version features a solo traditional Korean changgu drum, a lovely gayageum (Korean traditional harp), and the powerful vocals of Brooklyn-based singer Yoon Sun Choi.
